Pharmasave Weekend Preview: Bandits begin month with Canucks home and home series

BROOKS, AB (April 2, 2021) – The Brooks Bandits (6-1) begin the month of April with a home and home series against the Calgary Canucks as they enter the final weekend of this cohort.

The Bandits host the Canucks on Fri, April 2nd at the Centennial Regional Arena (7:00 PM), and travel to Calgary on Sat, April 3rd for a rematch at Father David Bauer Arena (7:00 pm).

The Canucks are moving across town with renovations happening at the Ken Bracko Arena. It will be Brooks’ first game at Father David Bauer since December 11th, 2018, when they defeated the Calgary Mustangs 6-5 in overtime. The Mustangs have relocated to Blackfalds, who begin play in the 2021-22 season.

Originally, the Bandits were supposed to host the Okotoks Oilers on Sun, April 4th. It was cancelled to allow for the analysis of a COVID-19 test as per the AJHL Return to Play protocols.

Brooks has won all three outings vs Calgary this year, outscoring them 16-5. The Bandits have won 20 consecutive games over the Canucks, dating back to Nov 30th, 2017.

Players to watch this weekend:

Centre Sean Chisholm (Dartmouth) has yet to be held off the scoresheet for the Bandits, with 14 pts (7G, 7A) in 7 games this year. He scored the Bandits lone goal last Sunday in a 2-1 defeat in Okotoks.

 

 

Forward Devin Phillips (Holy Cross) is 4th in team scoring with 8 pts (4G, 4A) in 7 games and 3 goals in his last 4 outings.

Captain Taylor Makar (UMass) has 7 points in his last 4 games, and is over a point a game this year.

Defenceman Tyler Bates (Colorado College) recorded 2A in his return to the lineup on March 27th vs the Canucks.

Goaltender Jared Whale has posted 2 wins vs the Canucks this year, both coming at home, and has a 1.51 goals against average and .919 save percentage.
