Pierce Charleson named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week

BROOKS, AB (October 15, 2018) – Brooks Bandits goalie Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) has been named the AJHL’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

The 18-year old is the first goaltender to win his first 10 games in a Bandit uniform, and the first Bandit goalie to do it in a season since Michael Fredrick in 2012-13.

He went 3-0 over the course of the week with wins over Okotoks on Monday, Grande Prairie on Friday, and Whitecourt on Saturday, allowing only 2 goals in each of the games, and stopping 56 of 62 shots.

Charleson currently ranks 5th in the AJHL in save percentage at .921 and 4th in the league in goals against average at 1.89, leading the league in wins with 10 and minutes played with 603.

He is the first Bandit to win the award since goalie Mitch Benson was named the recipient for the week of February 12 – 18, 2018.
