BROOKS, AB (November 30, 2015) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have acquired 1996-born goaltender Jonathan Reinhart (Cambridge, ON) from the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in exchange for 1996-born defenceman Taylor Karel (Eagan, MN), the team announced today.
Reinhart, 19, had registered a record of 19-6 with the Clippers so far this season, with a 3.09 goals against average and .904 save percentage.
“Jonny has great mobility and good size, and was a championship goaltender last year in the GOJHL,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “He will compete with Josh Davies for our starting job and provide some healthy competition.
“We have followed Jonny for more than a year and are looking forward to seeing him in a Bandits uniform this weekend,” he added.
Last season, the 6’0”, 175lb goalie was named Top Goaltender of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL), as well as a league all-star and one of two recipients of the Twin City Trophies for best team goaltenders, in his final season of Junior B competition with the Elmira Sugar Kings. Reinhart went 28-6-3 that season, with a league-best 2.44 GAA and .922 save percentage, backstopping the team to a conference championship. The year prior, Reinhart went 14-3-3 with a 2.15 GAA and .930 save percentage.
Karel, 19, recorded 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 25 games with the Bandits this season, after beginning his Junior A career with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays of the North American Hockey League last season.
The Bandits would like to thank Taylor for his contribution to the organization, and welcome Jonathan to Brooks. Reinhart is expected to make his Bandits debut on Thursday night when Brooks travels to Okotoks to take on the Oilers at 7:00 PM.
The Bandits host two home games this weekend; Friday against Spruce Grove, and Saturday on Teddy Bear Toss Night against the Whitecourt Wolverines, with toys thrown on the ice after Brooks’ first goal donated to the Scotiabank Smiles for Christmas program.
