Shane Bear returns to Brooks Bandits

BROOKS, AB (December 28, 2017) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) have added 1997-born defenceman Shane Bear (Calgary, AB) to their active roster, the team announced today.

Bear, 20, is a veteran of 156 regular season games with the Bandits from 2013 to 2016, in which he recorded 108 points (23 goals, 85 assists). He was named to the AJHL South All-Rookie Team after his debut campaign in 2013-14, was the highest scoring defenceman in the AJHL in 2014-15 with 43 points (8 goals, 35 assists) in 60 games, and won both an AJHL Championship and World Junior A Challenge gold medal with Team Canada West in his most recent stint with the team in 2015-16.

He scored 23 points (5 goals, 18 assists) in 42 AJHL playoff games over the three seasons, and dressed in 2 games at the 2016 Western Canada Cup, for a total of 200 regular season and playoff games so far with the team.

Most recently, he dressed in 41 games for the University of Massachusetts Minutemen in the NCAA’s Hockey East conference, recording 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) over two seasons.

Bear is expected to make his season debut on Monday afternoon when the Bandits host the Canmore Eagles for a special New Year’s Day game at 4:00 PM.

The Bandits next take on the Calgary Mustangs at the CRA tomorrow night in their first game after the Christmas break, with the potential for a 9-game win streak on the line. Tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
