BROOKS, AB (May 10, 2016) – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce the commitment of 1997-born centre Tyler Carangelo (Hamden, CT) for the 2016-17 AJHL season.
Carangelo, 18, recently completed his senior season at Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut, recording 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 27 games while serving as a team captain for the Winged Beavers.
“Tyler fits the style of our team and league very well,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “He will provide our fans with a hardworking and physical game while producing offence.
“He comes to us from a tremendous program at Avon so his transition to junior hockey will be very quick,” he added.
In three total years competing in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Division I, the 6’0”, 175lb forward recorded 65 points (25 goals, 40 assists) in 77 games played.
“I loved the fan support, and the facility was top notch,” said Carangelo, who recently visited Brooks. “It’s such a great program with a history of winning and I can’t wait to get the season started in August.”
“We have been interested in Tyler as a person and player for quite some time and his commitment to our program is a nice step forward for next season’s recruiting class,” Papaioannou noted.
Carangelo is the fourth player committed to the Bandits for 2016-17, joining 1998-born forward Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) of The Hill Academy, 1997-born defenceman Josh Gagne (Caledon, ON) of The Gunnery, and 1997-born forward Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) of Northfield Mount Hermon School.
