Tyler Nyman commits to Brooks Bandits

BROOKS, AB (May 30, 2016) – 1997-born forward Tyler Nyman (Centerville, MN) has committed to play for the Brooks Bandits, beginning in the 2016-17 Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) season, the team announced today.

Nyman, 18, was the leading scorer and a captain for Centennial High School in Circle Pines, Minnesota, recording 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 25 games in the Minnesota State High School League. Nyman also played for Team Northwest in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League (UMHSEL), scoring 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 24 total games.

“Our staff had the opportunity to see Tyler play at a tournament in Minnesota and were instantly impressed and intrigued by his abilities,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “Tyler fits many of the traits we look for in players and just came off a fantastic season at Centennial High School.

“His offensive ability along with his size both remind of us of our captain, Derek Lodermeier, and we hope Tyler can grow into a similar role with us,” he added.

Prior to this season, the 6’0”, 180lb forward scored 19 points (4 goals, 15 assists) in 20 games with Team Northwest last season, and 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) in 27 games with Centennial High in 2013-14.

“I am excited for the opportunity to continue my hockey career with the Bandits organization,” said Nyman. “This is the best fit for me to continue my development as both a hockey player and person.”

Nyman is the eighth player committed to the Bandits for 2016-17, joining 1998-born defenceman Dennis Cesana (North Providence, RI) of Kimball Union Academy, 1998-born defenceman Devon Daniels (Thunder Bay, ON) of Gilmour Academy, 1997-born forward Nicholas Hamre (Cumberland, ON) of Kimball Union Academy, 1997-born forward Tyler Carangelo (Hamden, CT) of Avon Old Farms, 1998-born forward Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) of The Hill Academy, 1997-born defenceman Josh Gagne (Caledon, ON) of The Gunnery, and 1997-born forward Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) of Northfield Mount Hermon.
