FORT McMURRAY, AB (November 9, 2018) – The Brooks Bandits (18-2) scored four consecutive goals, rebounding from a 1-0 deficit to down the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 4-1 on the road on Friday night.
The Bandits outshot the Barons 37-21 in the game, including a dominant 20-6 in the 2nd period in which Brooks scored 3 times to take a commanding lead.
Fort McMurray opened the scoring 5:59 into the game when leading scorer Reed Morison fired a high shot home from the left circle.
But Brooks responded just under halfway through the frame, when William Lemay (Marieville, QC) collected a puck at the right side of the net, carried through the low slot, and while falling to the ice tucked a puck by Baron goalie Chris Curr to tie the game.
In the second, Ryan Mahshie (Stoney Creek, ON) fired in the game-winner just 1:01 in on a wrister from the left circle that bounced off Curr’s glove and in. Jakob Lee (Owen Sound, ON) converted on a net front scramble 4:32 in to make it 3-1, and then on the Bandits’ only power play of the game, Ray Christy (St. Paul, MN) kept a puck in out of midair at the point, and soon after fired a long point shot that was tipped home by Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) to notch the 4-1 final score.
The second half of the game was entirely scoreless, with Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) making 20 key saves on 21 Baron shots. The Bandits killed off 4 of 4 penalty kills on the night.
The Bandits will complete their northern road swing on Saturday night, visiting Bonnyville to take on the Pontiacs at 7:30 PM; pre-game coverage starts at 7:15 PM on Real Country 105.7.
