CANMORE, AB (October 6, 2018) – The Brooks Bandits (7-1) moved into undisputed first place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) South division, and recorded their 7th consecutive win, downing the Canmore Eagles 5-1 at the Canmore Recreation Centre on Saturday night.
The Bandits outshot the Eagles 35-23 in the game, going 1 for 4 on the power play and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill against the league’s top-ranked special teams units heading in.
Bobby Harrison (Waterdown, ON) opened the scoring at the 12:30 mark when a centering pass from Andranik Armstrong (Alexandria, VA) in the left corner found the rookie Bandit forward at the right circle, as he fired home a quick wrist shot by Canmore goalie Logan Dyck for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) doubled the lead on the power play, one-timing a loose puck top shelf from the right circle. At the 7:27 mark, Brandon Scanlin (Hamilton, ON) converted on a net front scramble to make it 3-0 Bandits.
With time winding down in the 2nd period and the Bandits on their fourth penalty kill of the game, Mack Hancock (Kingston, ON) poked a puck free at the point and sped the other way into the Canmore zone, firing a high wrist shot in for a 4-0 Brooks advantage.
Canmore drew closer in the third, converting on their fifth power play of the game when Quinton Ong wristed one past Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) through a screen at the right circle, but the Bandits had the last word when Tyler Campbell (Winnipeg, MB) beat Dyck on a short side shot from the left side of the Canmore net to notch the 5-1 final score.
Charleson made 22 saves for his seventh consecutive win in net for Brooks. The win moved the Bandits one point up on the Calgary Mustangs for first in the division, after Calgary lost to Whitecourt.
The Bandits return home for a 3-game home stand next week, beginning with a Thanksgiving Monday matinee against the Okotoks Oilers at 4:00 PM. Tickets are free for all fans under 18 years old, with a free Skate with the Bandits after the game as well. Tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
