OKOTOKS, AB (October 22, 2019) ? Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) had the game-tying goal in the third, Sean Chisholm (Caledonia, ON) had the shootout winner, and Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) stopped all seven shooters he faced, as the Brooks Bandits (15-0) remained undefeated on the year with a 2-1 shootout win over the Okotoks Oilers on Tuesday night.
It was the first time all season that Brooks had entered a third period not holding a lead, after a Dylan James wrist shot off the rush had given Okotoks the advantage at the 18:23 mark of the first period.
But after a second period stalemate highlighted by a bevy of major saves by Oiler goalie Ashton Abel, the Bandits broke through at 4:09 of the third when Jake Lee (Owen Sound, ON) set up Hernandez off the rush for a wrist shot goal from the right side of the net to force the extra frame.
Both goaltenders made saves on breakaways in the frame, and kept the game scoreless heading into the shootout, in which both goalies again pitched shutouts for the first six rounds. But in round seven, Chisholm was able to beat Abel with a forehand shot, while Seth Bernard-Docker?s low wrister was stopped by Charleson?s pad to give Brooks the dramatic win.
