BROOKS, AB (October 14, 2019) ? A season-high crowd of 1,437 packed the Centennial Regional Arena on Thanksgiving Monday afternoon, cheering their team on to a 12th consecutive win, as the Brooks Bandits (12-0) rode a 15-save shutout from goalie Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) and a two-goal night from forward Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) to a 4-0 win over the visiting Lloydminster Bobcats.
With the win, the Bandits have now won 45 consecutive regular season games dating back to November of 2018.
Hernandez opened the scoring just 5:41 into the game, one-timing home a puck from the low slot on a setup off the rush by defenceman Ethan Lund (Calgary, AB). With Brooks on its first power play at 13:03, Brayden Krieger (Elora, ON) drove his way down the left side and in behind the Bobcat net, then flipped the puck back to Hernandez at the left circle for a one-timer goal and a 2-0 lead.
Brooks outshot the Bobcats 13-3 in the first, but were outshot 6-2 early in the second. But Charleson stood tall, and the period ended with the shots tied 10-10, setting up a dominant third for Brooks in which they outshot Lloydminster 18-2.
In that third, Sean Chisholm (Caledonia, ON) scored on a rebound at the front of the net 8:17 in, on a chance set up by a shot from the corner by T.J. Hughes (Hamilton, ON). After Lloydminster?s Chad MacLean was called for a slash, then a double minor for spearing a player on the Brooks? bench, the Bandits converted on the third part of the triple minor, when a feed by Krieger from the left circle was tipped home from the slot by captain Jake Lee (Owen Sound, ON).
With three assists on the day, Krieger moved into the team lead in scoring with 21 points in just 12 games. The Bandits went 2 for 5 on their power play and a perfect 4 for 4 on the penalty kill. They?ll head on the road Friday night to take on the Olds Grizzlys, aiming for a 13-game win streak. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:45 PM on Real Country 105.7.
