CANMORE, AB (September 20, 2022) – Hunter Wallace had two goals, Danylo Korzhyletskyi scored in his AJHL debut, and the Brooks Bandits won their 3rd straight game, downing the Canmore Eagles 5-3 on Tuesday at the Recreation Centre.
Goaltender Ethan Barwick (Lindenwood) made 33 saves for his 3rd straight win, as the Bandits (3-0) sit alone in 1st in the AJHL’s South Division.
The 1st period saw one goal, as forward Caelan Fitzpatrick (Niagara) cleaned up a rebound off an Ethan O’Halloran shot on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Brooks. Shots in the 1st were 18-9 Bandits.
Brooks doubled the lead to 2-0 at 2:52 of the 2nd, as Ukrainian Danylo Korzhyletskyi cleaned up a loose puck and scored on a forehand shot for his 1st goal since signing with Brooks. However, the Eagles came back, scoring back to back goals. Brody Tallman made it 2-1 with a point shot that went in at 5:08, followed by a Riley Dekowny deflected shot at 12:30 on the powerplay to tie the game 2-2. Shots were 13-12 Eagles.
The Bandits scored three unanswered goals in the 3rd period to take a commanding lead. Wallace (RPI) hammered a one-timer from the right circle on the powerplay at 1:15 to give Brooks back the lead. Wallace found the back again at 4:54, driving to the net of Andrei Proctor-Ramirez and sliding the puck underneath the Canmore goaltender to make it 4-2. Less than three minutes later, Bandits defenceman Ethan Beyer (Arizona State) scored from the right circle after Wallace carried the puck into the zone, making it 5-2 at 7:56. The Eagles’ Rhett Dekowny got one back with 44 seconds left in the game from the right circle that went top corner, but that would be it.
Shots were 15-14 Brooks in the period, and 45-36 overall.
The Bandits host the Eagles on Friday, September 23 at the Centennial Regional Arena. Game time is 7:00 pm.
