BROOKS, AB (September 4, 2022) – Hunter Wallace scored a pair of goals as the Brooks Bandits erased a 1-0 deficit and won their 4th straight pre-season game, 3-1 over the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Dominick Campione (Arizona State) added an insurance marker in the 3rd to add to Wallace’s tallies, while goaltender Wilson Maxfield made 20 saves, as 1,102 fans took in the Bandits victory.
The 1st period was scoreless, with Brooks outshooting Okotoks 12-7.
The Oilers capitalized on a powerplay at 8:30, as defenceman Brody Maguire scored on a forehand shot from the right circle to make it 1-0. Brooks got on the board at 16:29, as forward Huston Malinoski (Providence) kicked out a puck off the end boards to Aiden Fink (Wisconsin), who set up a Hunter Wallace (RPI) one-timer to tie the game 1-1. Shots in the 2nd were 17-9 Bandits.
Brooks took a 2-1 lead just 67 seconds into the 3rd period, as Wallace finished off a Dario Beljo (AIC) pass from the left circle on the powerplay. At 6:33, Campione fired in a high slot slapshot to give Brooks a 3-1 lead. Wallace was denied the hat trick on a glove save from Oilers starter Alex Scheiwiller late in the 3rd, but Brooks shut the door on any Oiler comeback.
The Bandits continue their 2022 Pre-Season schedule on Wednesday, September 7, when they host the Drumheller Dragons. Game time is 6:30 pm at the Centennial Regional Arena.
