BROOKS, AB (April 9, 2022) – Hunter Wallace scored twice, Ethan Barwick made 20 saves and the Brooks Bandits never trailed in Game 2 of the AJHL South Final, winning 6-1 over the Okotoks Oilers at the Centennial Regional Arena.
The Bandits lead the Best-of-Seven South Division Final 2 games to 0, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 in Okotoks.
Bandits defenceman Boston Buckberger (Wisconsin) opened the scoring 15:51 into the 1st period on the powerplay, finishing off a corner pass from Nic DeGraves to make it 1-0 Brooks. Shots in the 1st were 12-7 Bandits.
Wallace (RPI) doubled the lead to 2-0 at 2:46 of the 2nd as he tipped in a point shot from Ethan Lund (Niagara). Bandits forward Brendan Poshak (Northern Michigan) took a Brendan Kennette (Sacred Heart) pass and scored on the open net to make it 3-0 at 9:39. Wallace scored his second of the game at 12:36, firing a forehand shot from the slot to make it 4-0, seconds after Barwick stopped Bowden Singleton on a breakaway. Okotoks got one back, as forward Dean Spak tipped in a Brody Maguire point shot to spoil Barwick’s shutout bid and cut the Brooks lead to 4-1 at 13:57. However, Brooks forward Brendan Mairs tapped in a Dario Beljo (AIC) pass at 18:07 to give the Bandits a 5-1 lead. Shots in the 2nd were 15-8 Brooks.
Bandits forward Anthony Cipollone (Quinnipiac) tipped another Lund point shot at 18:21 to seal the 6-1 victory. Shots were even 6-6 in the period, and 33-21 Bandits.
