(December 13, 2022) – Six Brooks Bandits continue to represent the team internationally, as the 2022 World Junior A Challenge and IIHF World U20 1-B Hockey Championship are underway.
Team Canada West is off to a hot start at the 2022 WJAC in Cornwall, Ontario, thanks to a 5-3 win over the United States on Sunday, December 11, and a 6-3 doubling of Team Canada East on Monday, December 11.
Aiden Fink (Calgary, AB) and Hudson Malinoski (Saskatoon, SK) each registered two points (1g, 1a), while Caelan Fitzpatrick (Moose Jaw, SK) and Aiden Celebrini (North Vancouver, BC) each tallied a point in the win over the USA.
The next day, Malinoski was named Player of the Game thanks to his three-point (2g, 1a) performance in a 6-3 victory over Team Canada East. Fitzpatrick had a goal, while Sam Court (Winnipeg, MB) and Fink each recorded two points (2a).
Canada West continues their preliminary round schedule on Wednesday, December 14, vs Latvia at Noon (MST). They will then face Sweden on Thursday, December 15 at 5:00 pm (MST).
The Semi-Finals are scheduled for Saturday, December 17.
The IIHF World U20 1-B Hockey Championship in Poland is underway, with Bandits forward and Team Ukraine Captain, Danylo Korzhyletskyi (Kyiv, UK), scoring a goal in a 5-2 win over the host Poland on Monday. Ukraine opened their tournament on Sunday with a 4-0 victory over Italy. Korzhyletskyi leads the team in scoring with three points so far.
Ukraine plays Estonia on Wednesday, December 14, followed by games against South Korea on December 16 and Japan on December 17.
